Healthcare

Seriocomically challenged communities are often compounded by the coexistence of serious healthcare issues and lack of necessary resources to alleviate them. Centre for Social Change and Development (CSCD) is keen on advocating for universal health promotion, through improved health education and health literacy for all members of the disadvantaged community. Using information and social technology, the organisation aims to provide health education sessions for all age groups (children, adults) from disadvantaged backgrounds in remote social environments, incorporating a wide range of formal and informal educational techniques (lectures / folk songs / drama / poetry / cartoons / posters and dissemination of audiovisual materials). Topics of interest would include common health conditions with significant public health burden. It is expected that the knowledge gained so far from these educational sessions will reduce the knowledge gap and enable the individuals (and the community as a whole) to be aware of the healthcare issues relevant to the population, and be aware of the mitigating measures that may be undertaken (health promotion through health education and improved health literacy). Ultimately, it would be anticipated that this gain in awareness will result in enabling the community in voicing out their concerns and obtain better health (health advocacy).
